Gospel comes to Leweston
Posted: Thursday 24 April 2008 - 05:33:03
Ruth Fenton an Old Antonian, returned to the school this week to lead a Gospel Music workshop for a day. Joined by fellow Gospel musicians from London, Edwin and Miko, she spent Tuesday with Years 8 and 12 as part of their Retreat programme, introducing them all to the music, training soloists and teaching movements.
The hymns, songs and psalms they learned were then brought next day to the usual Wednesday morning Mass which all the school attends. This Mass celebrated St George, and Fr Richard spoke about how we face the dragons of fear that are sometimes so menacing in our lives. The music was outstanding: well-learned and performed with passion and joy, Years 8 & 12 leading the whole congregation. With Ruth and Edwin to animate the congregation, Miko was on keyboard, Freddie on drums and sixth former Beth on bass guitar.
The workshop and the Mass music were an inspiring introduction to what was for most a new style of liturgical music and an enrichment of our praise.
