Boarders explore Historic Houses and Ancient Caves.

This weekend was another busy couple of days for Leweston’s boarders who enjoyed visits to the local National Trust Estate at Kingston Lacy and the infamous Cheddar Gorge.

Boarders in Junior House were enthralled by the caves, colourful calcite sculptures and dancing fountains they found in depths of Cheddar Gorge.  The girls had the opportunity to embark upon a ‘Crystal Quest’ which helped them to learn about the impressive and extensive history of the caves before re-emerging into the sunlight for some refreshments at the end of the day.

Meanwhile the girls in Middle House visited the impressive National Trust property and gardens at Kingston Lacy.  Home of the Bankes family for more than 300 years, the striking 17th-century house is noted for its lavish interiors and it did not disappoint!  The girls especially enjoyed the impressive art collection which included paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian and Brueghel, and the largest private collection of Egyptian artefacts in the UK.

The wonderful weather also allowed to girls to make the most of the grounds and the restored Japanese tea garden.
