Remembrance Day
At the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, the whole school formed a circle of peace and friendship in the hall. The children, from Reception to Year 6, showed tremendous respect as they listened to our visiting bugler, Keith Robins, who gave us a magnificent rendition of the Last Post, followed by a minute's silence. Not a sound was heard as we all remembered the soldiers who gave so much for us, until the bugle sounded Reveille. The Head Girl, Helen Cridland, read In Flanders’ Field beautifully, and the Form Captains each placed a white Peace Poppy by the candle in the centre of the circle.
All of the children had learned about the part which poppies play in Remembrance from our visiting speaker at assembly last week, Mr Howard Fairman from the Royal British Legion. Many of the children have decorated poppies and written their own Remembrance prayers during RE lessons this week, and these are on display in their classrooms.
