Hickstead NSEA Arena Eventing Championships

A trip to Hickstead is always exciting as it is the home of British Show Jumping and most competitive riders aspire to jump there at some point in their career. We may not have been competing in the Hickstead Derby and jumping the infamous Derby Bank or Devils Dyke fences but Leweston's Equestrian Teams were there in May to be competitive in the NSEA Hickstead Arena Eventing Championships. Three Teams and three Individuals were qualified in the 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 1m classes over the ever challenging combined Show Jumping and Cross Country course designed tactfully to test re-active riding that is accurate and bold.

All three of our Individually qualified riders were placed in the top 8 of their respective classes, Flora SB (8th - 70cm), Sophie S (7th- 90cm) and Kitty GD (5th- 1m). All our teams were placed in the top third of their Championship classes but we had to wait for the last class of the show to bring home to Dorset another National Championship as Kitty GD, Sacha GD, Sophie S and Maria S won the prestigious and exciting blue riband 1m Arena Eventing Championship. The course again was challenging, Maria S and her horse Finley were one of only 7 clear in this class, but all four Leweston riders rode with determination and style to take the top honours in an exciting climax of a brilliant National Championship.

Leweston has had such a successful and happy equestrian year with two National Championships, Team Dressage and Team Arena Eventing and one National County Dressage Champion. We have competed at every NSEA Championships held this year including the Royal Windsor Horse show. The riding squad goes from strength to strength and we look forward to the 2018-19 to build on our successes and continue to develop our students of all ages into thinking, competitive and knowledgeable riders.
