Prep School participate in the Daily Mile

We are delighted to announce that Leweston Nursery and Prep are participating in the Daily Mile. The Daily Mile is an initiative that has quickly spread across schools in the United Kingdom and is now reaching various countries in Europe. The Nursery has already completed three weeks of ‘The Daily Mile’ which the children and staff have thoroughly enjoyed, with staff already noticing the benefits.

Lots of the children have joined in ‘The Daily Mile’ which started this week and will be continuing daily at 8.05am in the walled garden. Children can just head in, pop on their trainers and run! Staff will be running and parents are more than welcome to run with us too.

The beauty of the daily mile is that children are not required to get dressed; they simply need a pair of trainers. There is nothing to set up or tidy away at the end which means the entire daily mile can be done in fifteen minutes first thing in the morning. All children and staff will run at a pace of their choosing, as well as stopping to catch their breath whenever they feel the need to do so.

Benefits of the daily mile: - Raises the awareness of health and exercise - Improves body composition - Helps children and staff maintain a healthy weight - Improves concentration - Balance, fine motor skills and gross motor skills are improved - 100% inclusive for everyone - Not a race (no sense of failure) - Children enjoy it - Acts as an opportunity to socialise - Improves self-efficacy - Improves happiness - Figures show an improvement in attendance in participating schools - Improves mental, physical and social well-being.
