Sport is an important part of life at Leweston. The extensive grounds, sports hall and indoor swimming pool provide us with excellent facilities and all pupils are encouraged to join in with a wide variety of sports.PE and Games are taught as separate lessons from Reception to Year 6 and everyone has a weekly swimming lesson throughout the academic year.
In PE lessons pupils learn about the importance of being active and healthy through sports such as cross country running, gymnastics, trampolining and athletics.
In Games lessons pupils learn about the concepts of attack and defence as well as the values of teamwork and communication. From Year 2 onwards pupils are given the opportunity to take part in competitive fixtures and therefore develop a sense of tactical awareness. The sports covered in Games lessons include hockey, football, netball, rugby, tennis and cricket.
Leweston is one of only 9 schools in the UK with Pentathlon Academy status, this allows Prep pupils to access the training programme offered to developing athletes and pupils compete at national and international levels representing Team GB at the World Triathle and Biathle championships in 2017.
Leweston has a proud equestrian tradition and holds the NSEA Regional Points League Title as well as the NSEA National Dressage title.
Prep pupils regularly compete at NSEA events in showjumping, dressage and JWS as part of a programme run by the School’s own Equestrian Manager. Pupils can also access regular training sessions with Emma Fisher, British Eventing Team Coach for Young Riders. Leweston is an NSEA affiliated school and hosts its own NSEA Inter-Schools RPL and Grass Roots Show Jumping Competition every September with a one day event at BE Bricky in October in conjunction with the Pony Club.
Pupils can also pursue a range of sports through the extra-curricular programme, some of the options available include pistol shooting, fencing, running, swimming, ballet and tennis coaching.
