Geography
At the beginning of the pre-prep the children concentrate on using their immediate environment as a reference tool looking around the school, at how they can make their environment safer and where they live. Towards the end of Key Stage One geographical enquiry plays a prominent role in the pupils learning experiences and knowledge and understanding is supported by regular use of an atlas and simple maps.
The topics covered include the journey of a post card, the geography of the UK and the Emergency Services, which usually involves school visits from the Dorset Fire and Rescue Officer and/or local Police Liaison. The pupils undergo a study of the The Isle of Struay and look at a primary industry - farming, this topic involves a visit to an organic farm.
