Individual Needs

Leweston Prep has a small individual needs department offering a maximum of one Maths and two Literacy half hour lessons per week for dyslexic pupils or those needing a little extra help.

Assessment by class teachers or computerised specific learning difficulties tests are offered at any age and we also have links with two private Educational Psychologists or county services. Children are fully integrated but can be withdrawn for lessons using structured multisensory techniques in small steps with over learning and reinforcement of concepts. Self-esteem is increased with celebration of success no matter how small the target.

Advice is offered to teachers by both the Head of Learning Support and various county advisors in areas such as vision support, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. We welcome their support and guidance. Our main aim is for parents and teachers to work together for their child's maximum benefit. Parents will usually be asked to help their child with daily practice.
