Music

At Leweston we have a very lively and active music department. All pupils are involved and gain great pleasure from taking part in many different sorts of musical activities. Each class from Nursery to Year 3 has two music lessons a week with the Head of Music in our own specially equipped music room. The lessons involve singing, composing using a wide range of musical instruments from drums to electronic keyboards and listening to a wide range of recorded music. There are also computers used for composing and recording music.

There is a hymn practice every week for Years 1 to 6 where music is prepared for mass and assemblies. Singing is very much enjoyed by all our pupils and a high standard is achieved. We benefit from having a close relationship with our colleagues in the Senior School Music Department and enjoy some joint musical events with them. We also benefit from sharing the many peripatetic instrumental teachers with them.

We have a school choir, a chapel choir who sing at mass every week, an orchestra and two recorder groups. All these ensembles rehearse every week and give regular performances. We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of musical opportunities to all our pupils.
