French

The study of French at Key Stage One gives pupils of all abilities a fun and enjoyable language learning experience that encourages confident communication in everyday situations.  Pupils listen and respond to French spoken by the teacher and native speakers on audio tapes, perform finger rhymes and sing songs, join in with storytelling, act out stories, recall, retain and use vocabulary and phrases, and learn to ask and answer questions.

By the time the children reach Year 6, they have developed oral confidence and language learning skills, which will give them the opportunity to progress more quickly with French in the Senior School and will prepare them for the learning of a second foreign language. They also develop linguistic awareness which helps them to understand their own language better.
