Leweston Choral Society began c. 1956 and was instigated by Roger Bevan, then Director of Music at Leweston. The choir consists of girls from the school, boys from Milton Abbey, and adults from the local community. Over the years, we have performed many of the major choral works including the Bach Passions, Requiems by Fauré, Mozart, Duruflé, Verdi and Brahms, Haydn Creation, Händel Messiah, as well as more modern compositions such as Britten St. Nicholas, Finzi Intimations of Immortality and Elgar The Dream of Gerontius.

The Choral Society has a long tradition of employing an orchestra of excellent instrumentalists and exceptional vocal soloists to enhance our performances. This year is no exception and we are delighted to welcome back Luise Breyer, an Old Antonian, Richard Rowntree and Philip Spendley who have all sung with us in previous years.

This year, Sixth Form student Rosanna Radford will take on a special role in Choral Society as pianist in Beethoven Choral Fantasy, as well as singing in the choir for the other works.

We are very grateful to Canon Woods, Vicar of Sherborne and patron of Leweston’s Building for the Future Campaign, for allowing us to hold our Choral Society concert in Sherborne Abbey to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee Year.

All proceeds will go towards Leweston’s Building for the Future Campaign.  This campaign aims to raise £2.5 million to build a new Senior Study Centre helping to enable us to continue our vision of excellence in education into the next 60 years.   It is the first campaign of such magnitude in Leweston's history.
