Leweston Lecture
Dr Rogers, a grandparent at Leweston Prep, gave a fascinating lecture in the senior school library on Thursday evening.
The topic of the lecture was 'Science and Ethics - What is Possible may not be Desirable'. He talked about why codes of ethics came into being and how advances in science must work within the rules. He told us how brain implants for Parkinson’s disease control tremors but change personality and how other brain implants for improved memory may become normal within ten years. We also learnt about Paro, a responsive and therapeutic robot baby seal, used for calming elderly patients in nursing homes in Japan.
