English GCSE
All students in Years 10 and 11 take GCSE English and English Literature courses.
English GCSE consists of two exam units, Non-Fiction, Media and Information and Different Cultures, Analysis and Argument and two coursework units, Literary Heritage and Speaking and Listening. Examinations comprise 60% of the award, and coursework 40%. English Literature GCSE consists of two exam units, Post-1914 Drama and Post-1914 Poetry and Prose which together form 70% of the course. The coursework unit is based on pre-1914 Drama, Poetry and Prose and is worth 30%.
The examination board provides free copies of two specially prepared collections of short stories and poetry, for use in examinations and coursework, Opening Worlds and Opening Lines.
