History Years 7 to 9
A broad and stimulating syllabus is followed in Years 7-9, taking the girls from the Norman Conquest, through the Black Death and the Feudal system to the court of Henry VIII, the Reformation and the English Civil War. By Year 9 girls are confronted with the Industrial Revolution, nationalism, the slave trade and Empire and the World Wars and rise and fall of totalitarian dictatorships.
The History Department aims to challenge long-held assumptions and to promote independent thought. Girls are encouraged to develop a deeper interest in some aspects of the course and are helped to conduct some research of their own. Whether or not they elect to carry on with History in Year 10, we aim to give them a grounding in historical method that will enable them to meet a range of life's challenges with greater confidence.
