French GCSE
French is the language of our closest neighbours in Europe and although students may be more familiar with it, French is not compulsory and need not be chosen as the core language.
The syllabus requires the use of four skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. The topics covered are wide ranging and contemporary, ensuring that all who study languages will be equipped with practical skills and an insight into the culture of the countries where the language is spoken. They include everyday activities, personal and social life, the world around us, the world of work and the international world.
The new Edexcel exam board offers a two tier system; Foundation and Higher. Students are advised which levels to take in each skill, as there is a degree of flexibility allowing examination entries to be tailored to individual needs.
