Latin A Level

The AS Course involves prescribed prose and poetry texts requiring an explanation of the context and a discussion of the literary features of a given passage as well as a further literature paper which contains two passages from the prescribed texts for translating;  a second section then offers a selection of essays on the texts, one of which is to be worked. There is also an unprepared translation.

In Year 13 Latin students will study for another literature paper which contains questions on further set texts, requiring them to explain the context and discuss literary features of a passage and to write an essay on a text of choice. There is a further unprepared translation paper and a third paper consisting of either a prose, composition or comprehension - Leweston students opt for the comprehension question, answering questions in English on a prose passage in Latin/Greek.
