Latin GCSE
The foundations of the Latin have already been laid by the time the pupils reach Year 10. In the final two years to GCSE, the tenses, moods and voices of the verb, declensions of the noun, case usage, indeed all parts of speech are studied and practised through translation and comprehension work. The major constructions are carefully analysed. Selections from Latin prose writers and poets are read in the original for the literature papers. All Leweston candidates in Latin are entered for the higher of the two available tiers.
The girls take four papers at the end of the course: one on language, one of verse literature, one of prose literature and a supplementary language paper.
