Maths Enrichment Programme

The Mathematics Department is one of the most popular Departments of the School and all the members of the teaching team encourage not only the study but the core of the subject of which some girls are initially quite apprehensive.

Some of the most recent delights in the Department have been a Mathematics Day where schools from near and far were invited to send interested pupils from Years 6, 7 and 8 to learn about number patterns, loci, shape and space designs and participate in a mathematics trail; an afternoon with Kjartan Poskett, the famous mathematics author, who gave a side splitting and very inspiring talk to many young mathematicians and a visit to the Royal Institute Christmas Lectures when a group of girls and Maths staff attended a lecture on codes that was televised over the Christmas vacation.

All pupils are also encouraged to take part in UK Maths Challenges at all levels with many girls achieving certificate status and some progressing to further rounds.   The gifted and talented students are offered additional weekend enhanced activities, one of which is run by a member of the school's staff for Dorset LEA.
