Physical Education A Level
Sports Studies AS Level consists of modules covering the physiological and psychological factors affecting performance; socio-cultural and historical effects and development of sport and Physical Education including the development of women's involvement in sport and one piece of coursework when one sport will be assessed and analysed and a personal exercise programme undertaken.
At A2 students student exercise physiology and sports psychology including factors that optimize performance; elite performers and modern issues such as the Olympic Games, drug taking and sponsorship and, again, one piece of coursework when one sport is performed and assessed at a higher level. There is a synoptic assessment.
The course combines well with Biology and Psychology, GCSE Biology is useful, and is an accepted A Level course for most science based careers, e.g. medicine and physiotherapy. It is ideal for related degrees such as sports science and sports studies courses, teaching and sports management. Leweston students have gone on to do all of these options at University.
