Record A Level and GCSE Results!

Leweston is celebrating record A Level results for the third time in five years.  Sixth Form girls achieved a 100% pass rate and 80% of the A Levels were passed at grade A* to B or Pre-U equivalent.  53% of the results were passed at the new A* or A grades or Pre-U equivalent, a 10% improvement on last year and almost double the national average of 27%.  17% of the results were passed at the new A* grade or Pre-U equivalent, compared to the national average of 8%.  An impressive 32% of students achieved 3 or more straight A or A* grades across a range of subjects.  In maths, sciences and languages over 90% of examinations were passed at Grades A* to B.   Average UCAS points per candidate were 421, the equivalent of over three A grades per candidate.

This year has also seen the second set of excellent Cambridge Pre-U results.  90% of candidates passed at Distinction or Merit.  Leweston was one of the first schools in the UK to adopt this new and increasingly popular qualification in certain subjects when it was launched 3 years ago.

These results have enabled almost all Leweston’s leavers to win places at their chosen universities or specialist colleges.  Many girls will be going on to the more selective universities and art colleges including Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, London School of Economics, London School of Fashion, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, St Andrews, University College London and York to study degrees such as Accounting, Classics, English, German and Italian, History, Medicine, Mechanical Engineering, Natural Sciences, Nursing, Mathematics, Philosophy and Politics, Physiotherapy, Shoe Design and Zoology.

As well as the A Level and Pre-U results, Leweston is also celebrating its second set of record GCSE results in three years.  A record 71% of all entries were passed at A* or A, by a wide margin the highest ever achieved by Leweston pupils.   90% of examinations were passed at A*, A or B and an impressive 40% of all candidates achieved 9 or more A or A* grades.  20% of candidates achieved at least 7 A* grades.  Year 11 pupil Sophie Hawkins achieved 10 A* grades and alongside fellow pupil, Siobhan Stewart, got full marks in all three single science papers.   96% of entries were passed at Grade A* to C.
