Biology A level
At A Level Leweston covers the AQA Biology syllabus.
The course followed at Leweston is a modular one and gives a balanced and coherent study of Biology. AS Level involves:
Unit 1: Biology and Disease
Unit 2: The Variety of Living Organisms
Unit 3: Investigative and Practical skills in AS Biology
A2 consists of:
Unit 4: Populations and Environment.
Unit 5: Control in Cells and in Organisms.
Unit 6: Investigative and Practical skills in A2 Biology
Students are taught by two teachers at A Level, with each teacher concentrating on their own specialist area. Modules are taken in January and June in order to spread the revision load.
The schemes of work at all levels combine theory lessons with plenty of practical work. The Department believes that experiential learning is the best way to understand the concepts. As much of the work is current the girls regularly carry out research online, which enables them to access the latest developments and information on topics such as global warming.
