Biology Years 7-9

Biology in Years 7-9 largely follows the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for Science. The Department also contributes to the CASE project in Years 7 and 8.

In Year 7 the girls concentrate on the seven factors that all living organisms have in common, and look at cell structure. Reproduction in animals and plants is also studied in depth. The classification of living organisms is considered and there is a visit to Monkey World to look at the features of some of our closest relatives. In Year 8 pupils undertake a lot of ecological work, much of which is carried out in the school grounds. They also study nutrition in animals and plants.

Variation and genetics are the major focus in the autumn term of Year 9 when the classes look in depth at respiration and circulation. A topic on human health allows students to think about their own behaviour and how this could affect their bodies.
