Business Communication
Business and Communication is offered as GCSE to Years 10 and 11. The course aims to provide students with a sound knowledge and understanding of business and communication systems - including software, hardware, data, communications, systems and people. The use of ICT as a tool in real business contexts is encouraged.
The focus of the GCSE is the application of skills, knowledge and understanding of computer systems in the workplace. In addition to communication systems, manual and electronic data gathering is investigated. Money transfer systems are explored through different payment systems; the documents used in a business transaction and remuneration systems. Legislation, health and safety issues, security of equipment and data, and operational issues are also covered including the Data Protection Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and Misuse of Computers Act.
A piece of coursework, valued at 25% of the final mark, gives pupils the opportunity to investigate an actual business and report on their findings in light of specific criteria. Girls will also sit two examination papers, one practical and one theory.
