Economics and Business
Economics and Business provides a topical and fresh insight into issues facing today’s world. We live in a world that is increasingly globalised and constantly changing. As new challenges arise, Economics and Business can enable us to understand their causes and effects and to find appropriate responses as individuals, business organisations and governments. It explores questions relevant to us all, such as why people set up businesses, how businesses meet society’s needs and wants, how businesses achieve their objectives, how and why businesses operate internationally, what role governments play and how economic activity affects the world and its resources.
We encourage students to be investigative and to apply their knowledge of business and economic concepts to real world contexts, for example:
-
How important is it to trade ethically?
-
Are Multinationals too powerful?
-
How will rising interest rates affect the economy?
-
Can road pricing reduce congestion and pollution?
-
Why have low cost airlines been so successful?
As well as appreciating the contribution of economics and businesses to the wider economic and social environment, students at Leweston develop a critical understanding of business behaviour, awareness of the ethical dilemmas and responsibilities faced by organisations, governments and individuals and the ability to think analytically, to make decisions and solve problems.
At Leweston this subject is offered at AS and A level and no prior knowledge of business or economics is required.
