Physical Education
The PE Department at Leweston fulfils a key role as part of a balanced curriculum. It is hoped that many girls will discover a sport or activity for life as a result of the experiences and opportunities offered at the school.
The girls follow a traditional timetable for the first three years with a strong emphasis on games. Other sports are introduced in Years 10 and 11 such as badminton and volleyball, although the major games of hockey, netball, tennis and athletics are still followed.
In the Sixth Form PE is compulsory and there is wider choice of activities available as well as the opportunity to participate in the Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA).
The Award gives students aged 16 and over the skills needed to lead groups in safe sporting and recreational activities. It encourages participants to take responsibility for others, develops organisational and communication skills and instills confidence in people for whom leading groups in sporting activities is a new experience. The majority of the course is practical with an emphasis on learning through doing, rather than through written work.
The Department also offers a range of extra curricular activities to all pupils and for all abilities.
