Academic Results/UCAS
Leweston’s academic excellence reflected in record A Level Results.
Leweston School is celebrating record A Level results for the second year in a row. Sixth Form students achieved a 100% pass rate (97% in 2007) and 78% of the A Levels were passed at grade A or B (72% in 2007). 56% of the results were A grades, a 15% improvement on last year. An impressive 30% of students achieved 3 or more straight A grades across a range of subjects. Average UCAS points per candidate were 386, again the best ever.
Most students gained entrance to their chosen university or college. Many students will be going on to the more selective universities including Oxford, Warwick, Nottingham, Bristol, Cardiff, St Andrews, LSE and London to study degrees in Medicine, Philosophy, Music, Mathematics, Economics, Classics, English, Modern Languages, and Natural Sciences.
Head of Sixth Form Jane Carling averred “These results not only pay testament to the hard work of the students, but also the work ethic of the school, particularly in the Sixth Form. These students should be justifiably proud of their achievements. It is obvious that the way they have worked has supported their own and each other’s endeavours.”
Last year Leweston’s average A Level point score was the best of all independent and maintained schools in Dorset and Somerset and this year’s results build on this success.
From September 2008 Leweston will be extending its Sixth Form curriculum by including the new Cambridge Pre-U qualification in three subjects. It is the first school in the region to introduce this new qualification which already has the backing of the country’s leading Universities, and Q.C.A.
