Sport

Physical education and sport are essential ingredients in the daily life at Leweston and committed and enthusiastic team players of all ages represent the school every week in our major sports. The school takes its matches very seriously and practice and coaching is available all year round.

The school currently fields teams in hockey, netball, tennis, cross-country, swimming, rounders, athletics, biathlon, show-jumping and one-day eventing.

Leweston is well represented internationally with three girls representing England or Great Britain this year in Hockey, Biathle and Football.  This year Leweston’s Under 15 football team reached the Independent Schools 6-a-side National semi-final.

We regularly achieve excellent results in cross-country.  The Under 15 team were the 2009 National Cross-Country Cup ChampionsLast season saw several Leweston girls representing Dorset in the South West Championships as well as the English Schools Championships and Inter-counties. This year a Leweston girl was voted Dorset Independent Schools’ Female Athlete of the Year for the ninth year running (the third for her alone).

Leweston teams regularly compete in county hockey finals and last season several girls were also selected for the county team. The Under 18 and16 teams qualified for the West Indoor Hockey Tournament.  In 2010, the netball team represented Dorset at the West netball tournament.
