Inter Schools Show Jumping Competition - 27.09.08
After a very successful inaugural show jumping competition last year, we ran another on 27th September with an extra class. The event was open to all children who were 14 years and under on 1st September 2008 and schools entered as many teams and up to two individuals in each class. The competition was run under the Pony Club Show Jumping Rules 2008.
REPORT OF THE DAY
Saturday morning dawned and Leweston was shrouded in thick fog. It made seeing the rings let alone the jumps very tricky but undeterred we started on time in Ring 1. Fortunately the fog began to lift before Ring 2 started at 10am when competitors had to jump a slightly bigger and more technical course against the clock. By the afternoon the sun shone and revealed to the competitors the fantastic grounds and the wonderful Manor House that make Leweston such a special place.
Leweston’s teams had mixed fortunes. In the first class the Prep School team just missed out on a rosette. They were in fact lucky to start as Clementine France-Hayhurst’s horsebox broke down on the way and she and her sister Alexandra had to hack rather quickly along the road to get to the competition on time as Clemmie was the first competitor of the day. In Class 2 Victoria Wild did very well to jump a double clear and came 11th out of 70. In Class 3 we finally had something to really get excited about – Charlotte Walters won on Ballinaboy Remus and was second on Beenleighford Fingle, Sasha Barnett was 5th on Cassie and the Leweston Blue Team (Charlotte Walters, Lucy Nuttall, Alexandra France-Hayhurst and Lucinda Taylor) were 4th.
We had many comments on the day saying how efficient and well run the event was and this was due to everyone who helped and in particular to all the Leweston girls who made up the arena parties and ring stewards.
