Leweston hosted the Regional Inter-Schools Shooting Competition, one of 6 qualifying events for the National Schools Competition in Aylesbury on 16 January 2019. From this event the top 3 individuals and top team from the 3 age category’s; Junior (Years 6 – 8), Intermediate (Years 9 & 10), and Senior (Years 11 – 13) go through to the finals. Leweston had 33 competitors taking part, more than any other school in the country, this reflects how popular the sport is at the School.
The competition is a 20 shot match from 10m with 4 targets and 5 shots on each target. The top 8 from the prelim round go forward to the final and top 3 scores from the same school make up the team scores. In the Junior category Leweston had lots of competitors with good strength in depth. The A team of Darcy D, Ginny B, and Molly C took team Gold. The B team Millie, Nikita M, Flora SB, and Olivia L finished with Silver, and the C team came 4th. 5 of the 8 finalists were from Leweston; Molly C, Ginny B, Flora SB, Nikita M, and Darcy D who took Bronze. In the Intermediate competition the team also took Gold with Lily C, Jenifer P, and Lily A who also made the final. The last event of the day was the Seniors and Leweston made it a clean sweep of the teams which has never been done before to take team Gold with Coco S, Elektra C, Lottie T. Lottie and Elektra also made the final with Elektra just missing the bronze by two target points.
We now have 9 students going to national finals and a team in every age group which is a great achievement that has not been done by any other school.
