Leweston took twelve pupils to the National Schools Pistol Shooting Finals at Aylesbury this week. They each previously qualified through the regional round held at Leweston in October, this was one of 8 regional events from around Great Britain. From this event the top team plus top 4 individuals qualified for the national finals. The age groups were made up in school years, Junior Years 6, 7, & 8, Intermediate years 9 & 10, Senior years 11, 12 & 13.

Leweston took A Teams in each of the age groups with the most shooters from any other school in the country qualified for the finals. The first event of the day, the junior competition got off to a great start. The A team of Darcy D 4th, Flora S B 6th & Ginny B 13th took team gold with a team score of 502. The B team of Nikita M, Molly C, & Olivia L took team silver with a team score of 454, and in 3rd was Royal Grammar School Newcastle with a score of 424. Darcy qualified for the final as one of the top 8 from round one and finished 5th in the final. These results reflect great strength in depth from Leweston’s junior team. In the intermediate event the team of Lili A, Lily C, & Jenifer P finished 5th narrowly missing bronze.

The last event of the day saw the senior team in action with some tough opposition, but Leweston’s pupils did not disappoint. Lottie T, Elektra C, & Coco S took team gold with a score of 486. This was a fantastic finish to the day winning two out of three team titles and one silver. The day’s events resulted in Leweston School ranking number one pistol shooting team in Great Britain, an outstanding achievement that the athletes should be hugely proud of.
