It is with great sadness that we announce that Adrian Aylward passed away last week after a short illness.

Adrian was Headmaster of Leweston for nine years, joining from Stonyhurst College in September 2006. During his time at Leweston he had a profound impact on the school and left behind him a legacy of strong academic performance and enrichment. Staff, parents and pupils will remember him as a person of deep faith and integrity with a tremendous sense of humour.

Adrian’s educational career was formidable, he was a Head for nearly 20 years, an ISI inspector, governor of various schools and a former Chairman of the Catholic Independent Schools Conference. After retiring from Leweston Adrian continued work as an educational consultant and became the first lay Chair of Governors at Downside School, where he taught earlier in his career.

The Leweston community will gather to remember Adrian, at an appropriate point in the future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Requiescat in pace.
