Last weekend, 8 and 9 May, students enrolled in their Silver DofE award and completed their First Aid and Training program. They started the day with a teambuilding competition with the aim to build the highest marshmallow and spaghetti tower, which produced some very mixed results!
It was clear from the outset that all of the teams were focused and driven and put in a phenomenal amount of effort into each activity and training station. Students learnt a range of new skills such as bag packing, navigation, stove safety and how to safely put up a tent. All teams are all now looking forward to their practice expedition at the end of June where they will put all their new skills into action on a two-day local expedition.
“The DofE training weekend was such good fun and we all learnt many skills. It was interesting to plan our routes and where we would camp, we are all looking forward to actually going on our expedition. We walked in the afternoon which included following a route on the map, and getting stuck in a river! We are looking forward to moving forward with the award, cooking our food together and camping – it should be really fun!”
