NSEA Eventers’ Challenge Championships 2021 & Arena Eventing (JWS) Championship Festival 2020

All England Jumping Course, Hickstead, 29 – 31 May

Congratulations to our Intermediate Eventers Challenge ‘Team Navy’ who took top honours against 33 teams competing in the 90-95cm arena eventing NSEA Championships at Hickstead.

Riders, Flora SB, Charlie W, Maisy M and Henrietta J had a nervous overnight wait, as whilst they topped the leader board on Sunday after their rounds they had to wait for the class to conclude at lunchtime on Monday 31 May.

The three-day championship got off to a great start with ‘Team Blue’ in the 70-75cm JWS Championships (arena eventing judged on style, time and faults). Riders Jessica W,  Amelia O, Poppy Y and Henrietta J were just beaten into 2nd place.  These fabulous four riders then showed their skill and determination again in the 70-75cm Eventers Challenge (judged on time and faults) achieving 8th place against 27 teams, winning more rosettes and prizes.

The Championships events attract school teams and individuals from across the Country and were run under very strict Covid regulations (restricting numbers on site and socially distancing at all times). Leweston competed in nine team events and had eleven individual qualifications.  Seven of our teams were placed in the top eight, showing the depth of talent we have in our equestrian squad. The courses are technical and challenging befitting a National Championships.

Topping the SW Regional Points League for 2020 gave us the opportunity to contest the Points League Championship at Hickstead. This competition requires two riders to show jump the same course at each height from 70cm to 1m. Our team took 3rd place and speedy Henrietta J had the fastest round of the day!

Many congratulations to all of our Hickstead riders, although not everything went to plan for everyone, it was great to see the support given to each other and the sheer determination and resilience shown to come out the next day and try again, in every Class Leweston riders gave of their very best! Well done for approaching the Championships in a professional and organised way, it helped the long, busy (and hot!) days run smoothly.

All our horses were really well looked after, turned out to a very high standard and well prepared for this competition, we are lucky to have such talented and lovely horses to work with.

Riders: Jessica W (Tickle), Amelia O (Frankie), Poppy Y (Millie), Henrietta J (Polly), Flora SB (Smurf), Charlie W (Neo), Maisy M (Merlin), Madeline RS (Rocky and Micky), Matilda J (Flash), Issy C (Gatsby),  Loveday F (Crumble) and Mia K (Logan).
