OA, Coco Smythe (2016-2019) was welcomed back to Leweston School with open arms as she gave a talk to our current Year 12 students about her university experience. Having started a degree in Real Estate at Reading University, Coco has realised that she would prefer to take a more academic degree. Her gap year experiences abroad resulted in an interest in sustainability which made a Geography degree the obvious choice, also influenced by her enjoyment of Geography A level at Leweston.
Coco is reapplying for Geography with the support of the school and Head of Careers, Mrs S Hutton, and has encouraged Year 12 students to thoroughly research their options. She also emphasised the importance of focusing on a degree which matches your interest and skills, and not putting yourself under pressure to decide on your exact future career. Coco also discussed how best to settle into university life and how daunting the first few weeks can be.
Students asked a range of questions at the end of the session and it was obvious that they valued hearing from someone their own age. It was wonderful to see her back in the school and she received a warm welcome from her teachers.
Thank you Coco for joining us again and we wish you the best of luck in the future.
