Flora S-B, Year 11, and her lovely grey horse Westcombe William (AKA Billy), who is owned by her grandmother, completed their first BE CCI2* ODE event at Cirencester Park at the weekend.

Flora had to gain special dispensation from British Eventing Officials to compete at this level as she is not sixteen until August, and this was by far the most testing of competitions for this partnership. Wearing a tailcoat for the first time (required at this level) and riding moves that are Elementary level they achieved a commendable score in the dressage. They then had a super clear round in the show jumping and just a momentary slip by Billy on a corner approaching a tricky combination of fences prevented them going clear XC.

Appreciating Billy’s gallant effort, Flora announced it was the most ‘amazing experience’ and that she could not be more proud of her incredible horse. As Badminton Horse Trials takes centre stage this weekend we can’t help thinking that one day we might see Flora there, such is her talent and dedication.
