On Monday 2 May and Thursday 5 May, our school Schola Contorum and Ensembles performed at the Abbey in Sherborne, for the Sherborne Abbey Festival. Sherborne Abbey Festival is an annual, week-long celebration of music, with events held in a variety of locations in and around the beautiful town of Sherborne, Dorset such as the Sherborne Abbey and even here at Leweston School. Each year the Festival welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds from all over the UK to experience a wide range of performances and genres; from opera, choral and classical music to jazz, swing and more.
On the Bank Holiday Monday, our Senior Ensembles, including the Baroque Ensemble, Flute Group, Recorder Consort, Clarinet Solo, Piano Solo, and Jazz Band performed fantastically. The afternoon included new or alternative music, including Bob Chilcott, Dan Forrest and Elaine Hagenberg. Listen to some of the students performances below.
At Thursday’s event, ‘We are the Music Makers’ was performed by our Ensembles Concert along with performances from our Baroque Ensemble, Flute Group, Recorder Trio, Music Scholar Ensemble, Romantic Ensemble, Saxophone Trio and Jazz Band.
Once again, thank you to Director of Music, Dr Milestone and the rest of the Music Department for helping to organise the event and supporting our students with their hard work, they have been rehearsing since Christmas!
