On Friday, Year 10 Geographers undertook the second of their compulsory fieldwork days, visiting the Isle of Purbeck. The day began with an overview of the geology and the formation of headlands and bays from Peveril Point, including practising their field sketching. The pupils then worked in groups along Swanage beach to measure beach profiles and undertake sediment analysis, considering the role of groynes on longshore drift.

After a break for lunch we travelling to Studland to compare beach formation and coastal defences with those at Swanage. Pupils worked hard,  the sun shone and the field work helped increase understanding of the processes and landforms they had been studying in the classroom.
