Pontispool and Bicton Equestrian Report by Lorraine Roberts, Equestrian Manager

Sunday 28 January – NSEA Pontispool Eventers Challenge qualifier for Hickstead Championships (May 2024)

Our team had a successful trip to Pontispool on Sunday 28 January and obtained three team and three individual qualifications for the National Eventers Challenge Championships which, will be held at Hickstead in May.

With just a team of three, our 70-75cm riders took the team win. Congratulations to Poppy S, Florence C and Darcy N.  Poppy S and her pony were going cross country for the first time and achieved a really accurate jumping round to finish with an individual 2nd place.

Our Novice team (80-85cm) also collected a qualifying place; well done to Florence C, Darcy N, Poppy S, Ruby P.

Team Leweston Blue took the win in the Intermediate (90-95cm) and Poppy Y on had a brilliant and well timed round to finish 1st individually. Well done to Ruby P, Josie M, Poppy Y and Madeline RS.

Madeline RS was our only rider in the Open 1m-1.05m class and she made it a winning one with a very slick round, and was also the only clear in a very competitive class over a challenging course.

Sunday 4 February – NSEA Bicton Arena SJ Qualifier for the National Championships (Addington October 2024)

A trip to Devon to a very busy Bicton Arena, for a show jumping qualifier (National Championships) gave us a well-earned team win for Team Leweston Steel in the Novice 80-85cm against 15 teams. Congratulations to Darcy N, Hen J, Ruby P and May S.

Darcy N took 2nd place and Heidi H 3rd, earning their individual qualification to the National Championships in October. This is a great achievement as there were 73 riders in this class.

Our Intermediate team were keen to achieve a Royal Windsor ticket which has eluded us this year; a late pole dropping denied us again- although we had the fastest time!  With 18 teams competing for that one elusive qualifying team place, we finished in 3rd place with Leweston Aqua (Ruby P, Hen J, Isabel W and May S).

Isabel W had a brilliant round and finished 3rd gaining individual qualification for the National Championships.

Well done to all and thank you to our parents who continue to drive horses and children all round the South-West trying to gain qualifications to the Championships.

Lorraine Roberts, Leweston School Equestrian Manager
