One award is available for each age group offering a fixed price remission of £3000 per annum. An exhibition may be offered at £500.

Academic scholars participate in relevant workshops, seminars, discussions, societies and lectures some of which are reserved for the most able students. They are expected to attend the scholars’ club, Rhetoric, and the Head’s Essay Society. They enter subject relevant competitions and deliver presentations at various symposia. They are expected to achieve high academic standards
and set an example to other pupils.

11+ Scholarships (Year 7 Entry)

This award is made to the entrant with the highest score in the school assessment, it is therefore available to all pupils entering Year 7, including those transitioning from the Prep School, and no specific application is required however, to be considered pupils must attend the Year 7 Assessment Day which takes place in January.

13+ Scholarships (Year 9 Entry)

Candidates sit assessments in English and Maths (external only) as well as two academic subjects of their choice. A wide choice of questions will be available and no revision is required for the assessments. Candidates offering a modern foreign language will need to complete an additional oral examination. In addition to the written papers, candidates will be asked to give a 5-minute pre-prepared presentation on a topic of their choice drawn from one of their chosen academic subjects. The presentation will be given to the relevant Head of Department and Deputy Head and they should be adequately prepared to take questions. They will also have a short interview with the Headmaster.

16+ Scholarships (Year 12 Entry)

Candidates are invited to apply based on their predicted performance in GCSE examinations. They will sit scholarship papers in two academic subjects of their choice and candidates offering a modern foreign language will need to complete an additional oral examination. In addition to the written papers, candidates will be asked to give a 5-minute pre-prepared presentation on a topic of their choice drawn from one of their chosen academic subjects. The presentation will be given to the relevant Head of Department and Deputy Head and they should be adequately prepared to take questions. They will also have a short interview with the Headmaster.
