Leweston has a long established reputation as a boarding school with almost half the school boarding at some time in their school career. The boarding houses are located in the main school building and provide a warm and friendly ‘home from home’ for girls from age 7 to 18 and boys from 11 to 18. The Houseparents are committed to providing a settled and safe environment for every boarder.
Boarding allows pupils to develop independence and confidence in a secure environment; boarders learn freedom and self-reliance as well as how to live alongside people different to themselves. The extended day provides boarders with the opportunity to get involved in the full range of activities available at Leweston including music, drama and sports training. Many of our Pentathletes board to access the early morning and evening training sessions. There is also additional access to academic staff through our Boarding ‘Florins’ and attending the evening academic enrichment programme is made easier. Analysis by the Boarding Schools Association shows that 90% of boarders proceed to their university of choice. In 2016 Leweston was recognised as one of the top 20 Independent Boarding Schools by A Level by www.bestschools.co.uk
More information on the advantages of boarding can be found at the Boarding Schools Association website www.boarding.org.uk along with their 'Truth About Boarding' video with statistics on the benefits of boarding.
The quality of the boarding provision and outcomes for pupils are excellent; pupils benefit from high quality care and strong academic and extra-curricular provision. Boarders are happy and feel supported and cared about, while having the space to think for themselves.
