Everyone was very busy last week with jam-packed lessons and extra-curricular activities, including Year 6MM who enjoyed their Zoom service as part of our Harvest festival. They added their class collection to the huge total donation for 'The Lord's Larder' to be delivered to Sherborne Food bank! A big thank you to everyone who made a donation.
As part of their on-going 'All About Me' Topic, Reception Class shared photographs of themselves as babies and tried to guess who was who!
During their Social Responsibility lessons, Year 1 leaned about the differences between people around the world the importance of kindness to all. They have also been considering ways to save water and what life is like for those without easy access to clean water. In their Science lessons, they experimented with bicarbonate of soda, exploring what would happen when you combine it with a host of other liquids.
Our Year 2 gardeners have emptied some old planters and re-planted new spring bulbs, ready to brighten our school environment. With the environment in mind, during their 'Africa' Topic, they got creative with some 'upcycling' and created elephants from old milk containers and produced some lovely results!
Year 3 continue to be immersed in their 'Ancient Egypt' Topic which saw them mummifying sausages and are very excited to come to school dressed as Egyptians this Thursday. Along with the rest of the Prep, Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic morning at school with their Grandparents on Friday. Sadly we couldn't invite them onto the site but this didn't stop our annual Grandparents Morning from going ahead, albeit virtually!
Year 4 put their sense of adventure to the test in Forest School as they learnt to use saws to cut sticks to required lengths.
Year 5 are linking History, Science, and English lessons together through the theme of 'Space' this half-term and were transported through the solar system in their Virtual Reality Space Workshop last week through the power of technology. Read more about their workshop experience here. They have also been busy developing their independent research skills using the ICT suite to find out more about space and have been creating a space themed sound-scape during their Music lessons. On Friday the pupils came to school dressed as all things 'space'!
Year 6 experimented with heart rate in Science, which resulted in some interesting acrobatics! They also put the finishing touches to their egg houses in Forest School, complete with waterproof rooves and soft bedding. Once complete they will go on to assess how well they have managed to create a protective and comfortable home for their fragile egg.
