Design Textiles Workshop at the V&A
Friday, November 16, 2018
Design textile students from Years 10-12 attended a workshop with textile artist Juliana Sissons at London's Victoria and Albert Museum this week.
After introducing herself and her work Juliana highlighted fashion's impact on the environment and the sustainability of the clothes we purchase. She then set the students a brief - to create a large piece of 'fabric' made entirely from recycled materials. This fabric was to then be used to create a garment by draping on the stand. In order to get some inspiration the students were able to view the V&A's new clothing exhibition 'Fashioned from Nature'. After lunch the students set about their task working in teams. Juliana was so impressed with their work she has included some of it on the V&A's Instagram account plastic_pollution_project with which they are highlighting the impact of plastic pollution on the environment.
