Leweston riders show resilience at Hickstead
Friday, May 31, 2019
Leweston Equestrian Team had a successful and busy three day trip to Hickstead this half term with 3 out of 4 Championship teams coming in the top 10 which is quite an achievement.
Unfortunately, sometimes things do not go to plan, however this is when you realise the real strength of the team and friends around you. We weren’t able to retain our 1m Championship title as one of our riders took a heavy tumble in the class beforehand. Our wonderful Leweston riders were far more concerned about their team member than the Championship class and it was wonderful to see such compassion, understanding and thoughtfulness. Thankfully later, our rider felt well enough to come and support them as they jumped round the challenging course as Individuals.
Further to this, our 80cm Championship team all rode clear and finished a brilliant 5th place out of 36 teams in the finals. We couldn’t be prouder of their riding and their horses.
Congratulations to our Prep School representatives, Jessica and May, who both came home with rosettes and to Phoebe who joined the team for the last day to compete in the Show Jumping Qualifiers, she was very competitive in this quality field.
