Sport is an important part of life at Leweston Prep. The extensive grounds, sports hall and indoor swimming pool provide us with excellent facilities and all pupils are encouraged to join in with a wide variety of options.

Pupils from Reception to Year 6 follow a carefully structured programme of PE, Games and weekly swimming lessons. This aims to develop pupils’ physical skills and fitness as well as their knowledge of the physical, mental and social benefits of exercise.

Our Sports

At Leweston we offer a wide variety of individual and team sports through curriculum teaching and after-schools clubs. These include: hockey, football, netball, rugby, tennis, cricket, cross country running, gymnastics, trampolining, tennis, athletics, swimming, shooting, fencing, triathlon, riding and pentathlon.

Key Aims

By the end of Year 6 we hope that all pupils:

  • believe sport is fun and look forward to their timetabled lessons.
  • understand the range of extra-curricular opportunities on offer and make the most of these opportunities.
  • are water confident and can swim 25m unaided.
  • appreciate the significant physical, mental and social benefits of exercise.
  • Understand the benefits of competition but focus primarily on improving their personal skills, health and fitness.
  • are resilient and demonstrate sportsmanship in both victory and defeat.
  • are independent and take responsibility for themselves, their equipment and other belongings.
  • are confident taking part in sporting activities both as an individual and part of a team.
