Responsibility and Community

Being at the top of an all-through school gives pupils many opportunities to lead and all students take on responsibilities as prefects, house captains, clubs and societies champions, mentors and peer leaders.

Community Service

All Year 12 students take part in the weekly community service programme visiting local residential homes, elderly residents, helping in the Parish and local Primary schools and visiting and supporting young mothers and children. The students host a tea party at the end of each term for those they have been involved with which is an extremely popular event.

Peer Mentors

All Sixth Form students are invited to apply to be peer mentors. If successful they go through a peer-mentoring programme where support and training is given prior to pairing with a mentee. They provide support and friendship to new pupils during their first term at Leweston as well as other pupils who may benefit from the support of an older pupil.

Leadership Skills

In the first term of Year 12 all students go on a two-day residential Leadership course in the Quantocks to learn team building, collaboration and decision-making skills. The course incorporates opportunities for physical activity and time for reflection and is extremely popular with the students. Outcomes from the course contribute to the prefect elections for the following year.

Prefects

Each year a team of prefects and House Captains, led by the Head Pupil and their Deputies, is elected to assist in various organisational tasks and contribute to significant aspects of school life. The prefect team act as ambassadors for the school. Taking on the prefectorial role with its extra responsibilities is an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and play a part in areas of school life where they think they can make a difference.
