At Leweston enrichment is an integral part of learning so all students in Year 12 follow an extended curriculum designed to develop additional skills and complement their academic studies.
Enrichment opportunities outside of the main curriculum are an integral part of Sixth Form. They not only support academic studies but also strengthen applications to higher education or future employers. All students in Year 12 follow an extended programme designed to develop these additional skills. This ranges across public speaking opportunities and presentation skills, competitions and Olympiads, subject specific clubs and activities like the Head’s Essay Society to workshops on study skills.
One period per week is devoted to consideration of various human rights issues and each fortnight, there is one lesson of personal, social and health education. Visiting speakers and in-house teams lead sessions on a range of issues such as study skills, rights and responsibilities, citizenship, health and wellbeing, stress management, gap year opportunities and higher education.
Although after-school activities are no longer compulsory in the Sixth Form students are still encouraged to participate and have the opportunity lead those that are of particular interest.
Sixth Form students have an afternoon of sport once a week and many continue to compete for the School. Every year the Pentathlon Academy welcomes Year 12 entrants into the programme. Students can choose their own programme from a range of competitive and recreational sports as well as activities that promote health and fitness. Current options include: Hockey, Netball, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Swimming, Zumba and Yoga. In addition to timetabled games Sixth Formers can use the gym equipment during your free time.
Music and Drama play a significant part in Sixth Form life. Students play pivotal roles in Senior School productions, drama competitions, the Joint Schools’ Symphony Orchestra and Schola.
