Competing

Leweston is one of the most successful inter-school equestrian teams in the country winning the NSEA Regional Points League title for seven years in a row. For the past two years the team has scored the highest number of points across all nine NSEA regions.

The LCRA supports and develops pupils who want to take their riding to the next level providing competition experience from an early age and providing access to the highest levels of coaching expertise. Members of the Academy are mentored by the Director of Riding, Mrs Lorraine Roberts who provides training sessions throughout the term and supports pupils at team competitions.

Teams are selected from Academy members to compete regularly in NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association), British Show Jumping, British Eventing and British Dressage events. The Academy squad is selected from riders who are keen to compete for the school at Grass Roots level (40cm-70cm) and Senior level (70-1.20m) in show jumping, dressage, arena eventing and ODE's. Riders can qualify for National Championships at Hickstead and Addington.

Training for competitions takes place throughout the term as part of weekly training sessions for the riding squad. This might also involve training with discipline specialists from outside of the school.

What is the NSEA?

The NSEA, established in 1991, is the recognised body for equestrianism in schools throughout the UK, providing inter-schools competitions for team and individual riders at maintained and independent schools as well as colleges of further education.

The NSEA is run by a number of industry experts with years of experience both in schools and the highest levels of equestrian sport as organisers, judges, owners and competitors. Many of the NSEA committee are also senior teachers. The NSEA is an Independent Partner of the British Horse Society and works closely with other British Equestrian Federation member bodies to produce the best opportunities for inter-school equestrian sport.
