- Enrichment and Development
The quality of any enrichment programme is a measure of how seriously a school takes its responsibility of building well-rounded, healthy, ambitious, intellectually curious, emotionally resilient, and ultimately happy and successful human beings. Enrichment, done well, develops the individual and helps them fulfil their broader potential, giving students the opportunity to grow as people into the adults they will be by the time they leave us.
While academic outcomes are clearly very important, at Leweston students mean so much more to us than just a set of grades. To ensure that the whole person is ‘enriched and developed’ we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including our bespoke Leweston Enrichment and Development (LEaD) Programme, designed to develop Sixth Formers as the senior student leaders of our community.
The Leweston Enrichment and Development Programme (LEaD)
The LEaD programme provides the opportunity to engage in a range of experiences that go beyond timetabled studies while providing students with the tools to grow as experts in intellectual and practical ways. Activities are divided into three separate strands which mirror the school's values. Sixth Formers are expected to engage in all three LEaD strands each term, setting targets and recording progress. In addition, there is a timetabled enrichment slot each week where students can sign up to a termly option, including community service, charity/fundraising, global citizenship, world cultures, public speaking, sports coaching, events management and enterprise.

Community
Students engage in initiatives, activities and events that support both the school and wider community, for example through membership of a committee, house or council, younger tutor group, or by position as a prefect, subject ambassador, peer mentor or guardian.

Opportunity
Students take the lead in organising, running and participating in activities and events that develop employability and transferable life skills, personal attributes, physical fitness and sports ability, health and wellbeing, social responsibility and an appreciation of culture and the arts.

Expertise
Students commit to developing academic potential, skills and knowledge through participation in subject and non-subject-related extension or super-curricular activities, post-A Level preparation sessions (e.g. UCAS), study-skills training, academic competitions and societies, and the EPQ.
Enrich your studies
In addition to the LEaD programme there are many and varied ways to enrich your academic studies. These include the Head's Essay Society, departmental trips and visits, and completing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Highly respected by universities, this extended essay helps to develop independent learning and research skills.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Enrichment covers a number of extra-curricular activities. There are opportunities to learn new skills, improve on existing skills and discover new interests. Sixth Formers can train as lifeguards, complete the Ten Tors Challenge, participate in DofE Gold and join in with a wealth of after-school and lunchtime clubs.
Physical Education
Sixth Formers have an afternoon of sport once a week and many continue to compete in competitive matches. Every year the school welcomes Pentathlon, Equestrian and Sports scholars into Sixth Form who participate in the relevant elite sports programme. Students can choose their own programme from a range of competitive and recreational sports as well as activities that promote health and fitness.
Becoming leaders of the future
At Leweston, we believe in the power of giving back and working together with our community. Every individual, particularly those in Sixth Form, is encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, their relationships, and their personal growth. By fostering a culture of accountability, we support pupils in becoming compassionate leaders who are aware of their role in creating a better society.
