Nursery Life

Leweston Nursery welcomes children from 3 months to school age and is divided into five ‘units’, based on age;

Younger Babies – Pre-walking babies

Older Babies – Up to the age of around 2

Toddlers – From 2 years until around 3

Transition 1 – Children who have turned or are turning 3

Transition 2 (Pre-School) - All children will start in this class in the September before they are due to start school

Each unit has a specific Room Leader and your child will be assigned a key worker who will be your main point of contact at the Nursery. Our Transition 2 (Pre-School) class is led by a qualified teacher, who is able to oversee the learning and ensure that the children have the best possible preparation ahead of their start at school.

We also have a Senior Practitioner and a Nursery Supervisor who oversee the day-to-day running of the Nursery.

Your key worker will take lead responsibility for your child’s care and development.  However, at Leweston, our staff work extremely closely with all children and form strong bonds with them. We deliberately develop these relationships so that your child will always feel happy and confident at Nursery, no matter which members of staff they may be with.

Healthy Eating

food All children have their meals in the main dining room in our special Nursery area; eating around a table with staff and other pupils. Our menu is carefully crafted to introduce new flavours and textures to the children, while not steering too far from the family favourite meal style that we know they love to eat. Eating together in a family meal style with staff and children together encourages the children to be more adventurous in trying new foods, and supports their personal development.

Specific medical or ethical dietary requirements are fully catered for by our specialist team.

A varied and balanced menu is prepared by our dedicated team of catering staff, and children and adults (as good role models) are encouraged to eat a broad and healthy diet, developing an understanding which will build life-long foundations for good nutrition.

m_o_615868_5axndbanpq2wcrb5kv6svehh9hk6wvqy Our menus are sent out to parents ahead of each week, so that you can see what will be on offer each day and plan your meals at home accordingly.

We serve two main meals each day, and two snacks. ‘Tea’ is served at 4.15pm and provides a simple meal at this time of day, when children often get very hungry. This also takes the pressure off for your evening routine after pick-up, as the children won’t need more than a light snack.

Morning snack examples – Cheese and Crackers, Sausage Rolls, Cream cheese bagels, fruit scones, ham sandwiches

Lunch examples – Chicken pie, pasta bake, korma curry, cottage pie, toad in the hole, lasagne, fish pie

Afternoon snack examples – Cut pineapple, orange slices, watermelon, mixed fruit salad

Tea examples – Scrambled egg on toast, tomato pasta, jacket potato, pizza, chicken goujons

Partnership With Home

Building Regular communication with home is key and ensures that a true partnership is developed between home and Nursery. We pride ourselves on how well we know each and every child, and we strive to reflect this in all our communications with parents.

The children’s progress is monitored and recorded in our online Tapestry system. You’ll have access to this online ‘folder’ and will be able to see regular photos and videos during their time with us. We use this digital portfolio to plan and share the appropriate next steps in their learning for your child, so that we can tailor everything that we do to ensure we meet their exact needs. Your regular contributions to the Tapestry system are hugely valued; you can like and comment on observations and add your own photos and videos. The children love to show us what they’ve been doing at home!

m_o_568621_ah81srkzgkhre60v8n32p2mw3napvtr5 We often invite parents, and grandparents to join us for 'Stay and Play' events and you’ll be warmly welcomed into the building for drop-off and collection, as we believe this true engagement with the setting is critical. We take the time to speak with every parent at drop-off and collection to share details about your child’s day.

Children in Babies and Toddlers will also be provided with a home-school communication book where we can also write any important information about your child’s day and you can write messages to us, if you prefer to communicate in this manner.

If there is anything that you forgot to mention during the Nursery day, staff are contactable by email at all times, or by phone if you are happy to leave a message (01963 211042). We also offer regular parent consultation evenings when you can make an appointment to come in and discuss your child’s progress, but we are also happy to discuss and help at any time.
